The beautiful songs and moolelo inspired by the historic ranches and places in Kona that have sparked the imagination of paniolo for generations will be shared Wednesday during Kona Historical Society’s Hanohano O Kona Lecture Series in Kailua-Kona.
“Na Mele Paniolo O Kona” will feature songwriter, rancher, and KHS Board president Allen Wall; musician, kahu, and cultural historian Danny Akaka; director of Ke Kula Mele Hawaii O Akaka, and steel guitarist Alan Akaka; Aaron Mahi, musician and former director of the Royal Hawaiian Band and former conductor of the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra; and Christy Lassiter, entertainer.
The lecture starts at 5:30 p.m. at the West Hawaii Civic Center with Hannah Springer, cultural historian and KHS Board director, introducing the background on the homesteads featured in the songs.
Presented by Kona Historical Society, in cooperation with the County of Hawaii, this lecture series is offered free of charge and is open to all.
